Water Results Workshop

freshwater swamp forest

Mangatangi-Maramarua Catchment has been focused on measuring water quality in our rivers.
Using the latest technology, water is tested and compared against national and regional standards.
There are five testing sites in the Mangatangi River and seven in the Maramarua River. Data is gathered four times a year and we now have a full year’s worth of data that examines; flow, water clarity, e.coli, nitrates and water temperature. Each sample is compared to the previous and mapped against national and regional standards.

The latest comparative water data improves our ability to understand freshwater health and the complex relationships it has between seasonality, farming practices, soil health, climate, biodiversity and pests. How these factors interact and drive change both negatively and positively will guide our future actions and land management processes.
